This course provides a comprehensive overview of oil and chemical tanker cargo operations and is intended for personnel, whether from ship or shore side, who handles oil and chemical cargoes. It is essential they understand the essentials of safe operations and effective cargo handling to reduce risks in dealing with dangerous cargoes.

This course covers topics on effective cargo handling, safety systems, load and discharge operations, pumping arrangements, ballasting operations, crude oil washing, methods of inerting, purging and gas freeing, tank cleaning, and emergency plans in terminals, berths, etc. The course combines lectures, discussions, practical case studies and workshops drawn from the expertise of our trainer who has over three decades of experience in the field as a mariner, consultant, and educator.
Your expert trainer has 32 years in the maritime industry. He has overseen shipping operations as a seagoing officer, Master, vetting inspector, cargo expediter, risk assessor, charterers’ representative and latterly as trainer, educator and researcher. His work has not only taken him around the world but into the hub of various high level international projects.

Your trainer started his seagoing career with the BP Tanker Company in 1980 as a deck cadet and rose to the rank of Chief Officer, having attained his Master Mariners Certificate of Competency.  As a junior officer, he added to his seagoing experience by sailing on dry cargo ships.  With BP he worked extensively on crude oil, refined product, fuel oil and LPG tankers and enjoyed world-wide trading patterns.
